No one blubbed when I sacked them, insists David Cameron

David Cameron today denied that he had reduced ministers to tears by sacking them.

There were reports that three ministers, including Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman and Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan, had welled up in his Commons office. But Mr Cameron said: “No, that’s not true actually. But it obviously is difficult because there are ministers who have worked incredibly hard, who have done absolutely nothing wrong in their jobs, who are very dedicated.

“But when you’ve got a big team of 300 MPs, huge challenges, it’s important to bring new people on and bring new people in, so you have to let some people go.”

Police minister Nick Herbert walked out of Government after being passed over for the promotion he sought and Justine Greening is said to have shouted at the Prime Minister when she was moved from Transport Secretary.
