Nicole in cancer scare

Nicole Kidman told me she will be going to the Oscars now that she has been given the all-clear after facing a cancer scare.

The star, who won last year's best actress Academy Award for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in Stephen Daldry's The Hours, has been in Australia with her mother Janelle.

She went there after doctors in Los Angeles found a questionable spot on her left breast during a regular check up.

She had a biopsy, but it was a nervous day or two because her mother is a breast cancer survivor.

After the surgery and some recuperation, Nicole flew to Sydney. 'They didn't find anything and I'm fine,' she said.

It meant she had to miss last weekend's Orange Bafta awards where she had hoped to present the best actor prize.

However, she will be in Los Angeles for the Oscars on February 29. 'Then it's back to work,' she said.

She has to film some additional scenes in New York for the film Birth and then have wardrobe and make-up tests for the big budget thriller The Interpreter in which she stars opposite Sean Penn.

Then she and Will Farrell hope to create some magic in a movie based on the classic television comedy series Bewitched.

Her agents are still negotiating for her to work with Steven Spielberg on his picture The Rivals in which she hopes to portray legendary thespian Sarah Bernhardt.

By the way, Nicole was never, ever, in the running, as some have claimed, to make The Constant Gardener with Ralph Fiennes. British actress Rachel Weisz will be doing it.
