New Trophy Rapist fears

Police issued this e-fit after the rapist attacked his 10th victim - a Stevenage schoolgirl

Detectives are today investigating whether a 15-year-old Surrey girl is the eleventh victim of the Trophy Rapist.

She fought off a masked man while walking alone along a wooded footpath in an affluent suburb of Woking.

The attacker, thought to have been wearing a black balaclava, fled after she kneed him in the groin as he tried to grab her.

Three of the victims of the Trophy Rapist - so-called because he often takes "souvenirs" such as clothing and mobile phones from them - have come from Woking.

Until now, he has not been known to cover his face but an e-fit issued last month could have prompted him to conceal his identity.

However, the 15-year-old girl has been able to tell police the assailant was in his thirties, well-built and 5ft 6in tall - a description which matches details given by other victims.

Surrey Police confirmed that details of the latest assault have been passed to the incident room where more than 120 officers from five forces are hunting the Trophy Rapist, who in the past 12 months has struck in Kent, Surrey, Berkshire, London and Hertfordshire.

A spokesman said it was too early to make a definite link to the serial rapist because there was no DNA evidence.

He described the girl, who had apparently been heading home after falling ill at school when she was attacked at 11.30am yesterday, as "very upset".

The footpath, in the upmarket Horsell area, has a cemetery on one side. Today it was sealed off.

The Trophy Rapist first struck on 15 November last year, raping a 10-yearold girl in Ashford, Kent. His most recent attack was on a 14-year-old girl in Stevenage on 25 October.

He is described as white, aged 30 to 50 with cropped dark hair with grey parts in places, and tanned, leathery skin. He is of medium to stocky build, 5ft 5in to 5ft 10in tall and has a gruff voice with a trace of a North-East accent.

Police, who have his DNA profile, have carried out more than 300 tests across the country in their biggest manhunt since the Yorkshire Ripper investigation.
