Most wanted: rogues gallery hits the road

On the run: the advertising van hired by police tours the roads of Hammersmith
13 April 2012

Police are hiring an advertising van to tour the streets displaying wanted posters of suspects who are on the run from justice.

A rogues gallery of "Most Wanted" suspects will be pasted on the sides of the van in the scheme in west London.

The suspects are wanted for a range of offences such as burglary and drug dealing. They include Amy Libren, 39, who was charged with assault and three charges for possession of crystal meth, cocaine and mephedrone, and Sean Patterson, 22, and Darrell Kristjansson, 22, also known as Richmond, who were both charged with a £2,000 jewellery raid in west London. They failed to appear at Isleworth crown court in November.

Police say the initiative, funded by Hammersmith and Fulham council, is a new way of publishing images of wanted suspects.

Hammersmith and Fulham borough commander Lucy D'Orsi said: "We are, in addition to using traditional techniques and electronic media, publishing these images right across the borough and would urge people to contact us so that these criminals can be brought before the courts."

Forces around the country used the vans to display wanted suspects in the wake of the August riots but the initiative is not widely used in London. Local police are also appealing for people who recognise any of the suspects to contact police using Twitter.
