Moscow police hold ‘accomplice’ over $230m fraud

Police in Russia today claimed to have found new evidence against a lawyer who died in prison while

Sergei Magnitsky, 37, head of tax at an American investment firm in Moscow, died of heart failure last November after being held for 11 months without treatment for pancreatitis.

Officials said on the first anniversary of Mr Magnitsky's death that another man they called "an accomplice" had been arrested and was ready to testify against him.

The lawyer's colleagues maintain he was framed by the government over allegations he defrauded the Russian treasury as part of a complex tax racket.
