Morrisons starts Safeway switch

MORRISONS has kick-started its drive to convert 400 Safeway stores to the format championed by 72-year-old owner Sir Ken Morrison.

The group, which took control of Safeway last month, has converted and reopened two Safeway stores - in Ripon, north Yorkshire, and Southport. Three stores a week will be converted and 50 sites should be refitted by November.
