More victims from Enron fall-out

12 April 2012

EVEN a local bakery is trying to claim unpaid bills from collapsed US energy giant Enron. Wood Farm Bakery, which sold bread and cakes to UK retail arm Enron Direct, wants £12.40 for its last delivery.

Also on the list of creditors is Varsity Newsagents, which is owed £169.25, and Unigate Dairies, out of pocket by £875.28.

These small firms are among several hundred creditors seeking compensation after administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers sold Enron Direct to Centrica for £96.4m. They are likely to get 55p-75p in the pound. The business is owed £133m, but £112m was from other Enron companies in a web of internal deals.
