Millionaire and family 'murdered for money'

A millionaire and his family - including his two small sons - were murdered for greed, the Old Bailey heard yesterday.

Amarjit Chohan's body was found with those of his wife and mother-inlaw in the Channel but the remains of his boys have never been found.

The 46-year-old and his family were killed because Kenneth Regan, 55, wanted to take over his freight firm and probably use it to import drugs, the jury was told.

Regan used William Horncy, 52, and Peter Rees, 39, to help carry out the murders last year, it was alleged.

The killings were 'wicked, audacious, dreadful and outrageous', prosecutor Richard Horwell said.

Regan offered to buy Mr Chohan's firm, luring him to a car park at Stonehenge, where he was abducted, held for several days and killed, he added.

The rest of the family - Mr Chohan's 19-month-old son Devinder, baby Ravinder, his wife, Nancy, 25, and her mother Charanjit Kaur, 51 - were killed to make people think they had gone abroad, it was alleged.

Their bodies were buried beside a house owned by a friend of Regan, Belinda Brewin, in Tiverton, Devon, said Mr Horwell.

The plot would have worked had it not been for Nancy Chohan's brother, Onkar Verma, who refused to accept his family had vanished without trace and called the police. The gang allegedly dug up the bodies and dumped them at sea after police questioned Regan.

Two days later, Mr Chohan's body was seen floating near Bournemouth pier. Regan's plot to take over the company ended with the discovery of Mr Chohan's body, the jury heard.

Regan and Horncy were held after fleeing to Spain. All three men deny carrying out th murders in February 2003 and the trial continues.
