Milkman killed by police van

13 April 2012

A milkman died after being hit by a police van as it answered an emergency call, Scotland Yard said today.

The incident happened at about 4.35am today, when the unidentified man was hit by the marked police van in Upper Richmond Road, at the junction with Grosvenor Avenue, in south-west London.

He was taken to Kingston Hospital, but died of his injuries.

A police spokeswoman said the accident was being investigated by Hampton Traffic Unit: "A marked police van attached to Richmond police station was responding to a request from colleagues for assistance and was in collision with a man on foot in the road.

"The man died at Kingston Hospital. There will be a post-mortem examination and inquest in due course."

She said Upper Richmond Road was closed between Sheen Lane and Priory Road following the accident.
