Met police ‘racism’ report is delayed

A landmark review of race and faith issues in Britain's largest police force will not be published until September.

The inquiry was ordered by Boris Johnson last October amid claims of racism at Scotland Yard. It was one of the Mayor's first acts after taking control of the Metropolitan Police Authority and ousting commissioner Sir Ian Blair.

Mr Johnson said the review should report back in the spring, but it emerged today that it will not be presented until 24 September.

Those behind the £100,000 work said they have been deluged with submissions and information, adding significant delays.

An MPA spokeswoman said: "Due to the very high level of responses, both written and oral, as well as information gathered from focus groups, the inquiry has produced a large body of material and research which needs careful analysis and this process is taking longer than originally planned."
