Met halves terror stop-and-search use

The number of people stopped and searched in London under disputed anti-terror laws has almost halved, according to new figures.

A total of 22,136 people were stopped in the capital between July and September last year under the Section 44 power, which allows officers to question people without reasonable grounds of suspicion.

The figure was almost half the total in the same period the previous year.

In May last year the Met restricted the power to specific sites after criticism that it alienated ethnic minorities.
