Met chief to work for travel firm

Met Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens has accepted a job with foreign exchange specialist Travelex.

The country's most powerful policeman will become a non-executive, part-time, director with the company once he steps down from his current role next January.

Sir John, 61, is thought to have been approached by several companies wanting to recruit him. He has also taken up a post as visiting lecturer at New York's John Jay College.

He said: "The rapid growth of Travelex over the past decade has been a remarkable success story and I am very excited by the opportunity to contribute to the development of such a dynamic business."

Sir John, appointed Commissioner four years ago, is likely to earn anything from £15,000 to £50,000 in his new role, where he will serve on the group's audit committee.

Typically, a non-executive spends three or four days a month with the company.

Travelex made profits of £53.4million last year, almost double the previous year's figure.
