Who will be remembered as the media successes and duds of 2001? We asked the leading players for their assessment of the year in media.

Strangely, News of the World editor Rebekah Wade came top of both our heroes and villains poll for her controversial 'name and shame' campaign against paedophiles in the wake of the Sarah Payne murder.

But the survey threw up a few more surprises, as people looked back on their favourite media moments.
