Buskers are to face an X Factor style "play-off" in front of Boris Johnson for the right to perform at Tube stations.

Young musicians aged 16 to 25 have been invited to compete for the coveted prize of a year's licence to busk on the Underground.

The winner of the competition, organised by the Mayor as part of his drive to boost music participation in the capital, will also get studio time, live gigs at various venues and musical instruments.

Entrants have been asked to post their recordings on a dedicated Sounds of the Underground YouTube page.
