Match of Today: David Cameron v Ed Miliband

Commons clash: David Cameron and Ed Miliband at Prime Minister's Questions today
12 April 2012
Ground: PMQs
Kick-off: noon

After Quiet Ed last week came Nasty Ed. Labour's leader rained blows on Cameron and William Hague (absent from the chamber). "Is it a problem with the Foreign Secretary, or are there wider problems with the Government?"

Cameron muttered that he took no lessons in dealing with Gaddafi from the side that let the Lockerbie bomber go free. Nasty Ed noted the "deafening silence" when it came to supporting Hague.

But Cameron replied with an absolute belter: "There's only one person I can remember round here knifing a Foreign Secretary - and I think I'm looking at him!" Tory MPs roared with delight and Miliband never really recovered for the final three questions on police cuts.

Labour MPs left quietly, feeling they had missed a penalty.

Score: Cameron 2, Miliband 1

Commons Whispers

* An Early Day Motion on today's order paper urged help for the British pig industry. Its sponsor? Tory MP Richard Bacon, of course.

* The Lib-Dem Voice website is debating what a new upper chamber might be called.
"Senate" topped a poll, which included "chamber of horrors" and "rubber stamp".
