Man Utd to shed light on deals

13 April 2012

MANCHESTER United is expected to issue more financial details about recent transfer dealings alongside its annual results tomorrow as part of a move towards greater transparency.

The FA Cup holders came under pressure this year from Irish tycoons JP McManus and John Magnier, who own 29% of the shares, to release more details about transfer dealings.

It responded in August by spelling out who got what when it bought England striker Wayne Rooney from Everton in a deal worth up to £29.85m. Now it plans to do the same for earlier deals.

United is expected to confirm its position as the world's richest football club, even though it will be reporting flat operating profits, before player transfers, of about £50.6m for the financial year to the end of July.

This partly reflects a poor season by the team in the Premiership and European competitions.

Bid talk continues to surface about the company, though American entrepreneur Malcolm Glazer, with a 19% stake, is said to be supportive of the board.
