Man stabbed to death in street hated conflict, says his sister

12 April 2012

A father-of-two who was stabbed to death in south London was today described as a "quiet person" who avoided "confrontation or any sort of conflict" by his sister.

Solomon Sarfo, 34, who lived in Gypsy Hill, but was originally from Ghana, was attacked in a Brixton street. Mr Sarfo had lived in the capital for almost six years. His children, a boy and a girl aged 10 and eight, still live in Ghana with their mother.

Mr Sarfo's sister Afua Owusua, 29, a student from Toronto, said today: "He liked to keep only a few close friends. He was hard-working, polite and intelligent I hope people will come forward with any information they have."

She added: "It was such a terrible shock when I found out he had been murdered. He has been in London for five or six years. He has never been in any trouble before. He told me he was making money by buying things from markets and then selling them on for some sort of profit."

Miss Owusua said that the family were "completely in the dark" about the murder and her mother was "not holding up well at all". She added that she spoke to her brother two weeks ago when he was at a friend's house and he sounded "happy and normal".

No arrests have been made yet over the attack, on Sunday night last week. A police spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 11.35pm to reports of a man stabbed in Tilson Gardens, at the junction with Forster Road. Mr Sarfo was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem gave cause of death as stab wounds."

Anyone with information should contact police on 020 8721 4005 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
