Man dies in blast at his flat

Philip Nettleton12 April 2012

Detectives are today investigating the death of a 20-year-old man in an explosion at his home.

Scotland Yard say it is treating the blast, which blew out the windows of a flat, as suspicious.

The victim's disabled mother, in her fifties, was in the kitchen at the time of the blast at 3.30pm on Saturday but escaped uninjured.

Police evacuated the flats in Salisbury Court, Kings Drive, Edgware at the time and residents were allowed back to their homes shortly afterwards.

But following a search and the discovery of explosive substances, they were evacuated again at 10.30 last night.
