Luton Airport poised for take off

13 April 2012

PASSENGER numbers at Luton airport could increase by 70% within two years as part of expansion plans aimed at signalling to the Government that it should not forget about London's self-styled fourth airport.

With the Government set to announce plans for new runways in the South-East, Luton operator TBI claims bigger rival BAA will be allowed to use its Heathrow profits to fund Stansted expansion.

TBI chief executive Keith Brooks said: 'If I think there has been unfair play I won't hesitate to use every recourse available.'

He plans to take Luton from an annual seven million passengers to 12 million within two to five years. TBI profits in the six months to September were halved to £7.2m. The interim dividend is held at 0.7p.
