Londoners wait for news of relatives caught up in Israel ship raid

Storm: two thousand people demonstrated at the Israeli embassy in Kensington

Relatives of Londoners caught up in the Gaza aid flotilla killings anxiously awaited news today.

Families fear the worst after Israeli commandos stormed aid boats and shot dead at least 10 pro-Palestinian activists. The Foreign Office confirmed that one British man was injured.

Families in the UK desperately tried to contact their relatives but their mobile phones are thought to have been seized by Israeli authorities.

Sourad Elgerbouzi, from Notting Hill, said she was increasingly worried about her husband Bilal Abdulazziz, a 43-year-old charity worker.

She said: "The last time I spoke to him on Saturday night I could hear helicopters and speedboats in the background. He's normally happy-go-lucky and cheerful but sounded very anxious and exhausted — now the phone lines are out. I don't know if he's alive or dead."

Ms Elgerbouzi, 35, was among 2,000 protesters who marched from Whitehall to the Israeli embassy in Kensington yesterday.

One London mother heard last night that her daughter was being held by the Israeli Defence Force.

Sandra Law said social networking sites had carried the news that Alex Harrison, 32, from Islington, had been arrested. Mrs Law, from Croydon, said: "They know the risks, they are peace activists, they are non-violent and they have signed a clause agreeing that.

"I have heard through Twitter she has probably been taken to Haifa and is in prison. She is uninjured and safe and well."
