London weather: More snow hits the capital as forecasters warn of coldest weather all winter

More snow flurries hit the capital as forecasters warned the weekend will endure some of the coldest weather all winter.

After seeing a week of wintry showers and cloud, snow began to fall again in London on Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to stay below 3C for most of Saturday, but Scandinavian winds will make it feel much colder.

Seemingly undeterred by the cold weather, many gleeful Londoners shared pictures and videos of the snow on social media

Some joked that the light dusting of snow was "probably enough to bring London to a standstill".

Sunday will see a cloudy and cold start to the day with temperatures as low as 2C.

Forecasters have predicted it will warm up towards the end of the weekend and Monday is expected to be much brighter, with sunny spells and highs of 7C.

Public Health England (PHE) has issued a warning amid the plummeting temperatures.

Medical director Professor Paul Cosford said: "With more cold weather across all parts of England, now is the time to really think how it could impact you and your family, particularly those who are very young, over 65 or who have heart and lung conditions.

"Try to keep homes heated to at least 18C (64F), stock up on any essential medicine or food that you need before the cold arrives and remember that you will be warmer wearing several thin layers instead of fewer thick ones."
