Lloyds TSB will export 1,000 jobs

13 April 2012

A FURTHER 1,000 jobs at banking group Lloyds TSB jobs are heading to India - and the group is not ruling out further exports.

The back-office jobs being moved to Bangalore and Mumbai next year come on top of the 1,500 posts that have already gone.

IT, insurance and Cheltenham & Gloucester have been targeted.

A spokesman said: 'It would be impossible to say what might come afterwards.' Lloyds does not expect redundancies but unions fear 10,000 jobs will be sent abroad to save money.

Lloyds employs 77,000 people in the UK. It is offering £2,000 training bonds to staff who cannot find another role in the bank.

Insurer Aviva is exporting 7,000 jobs by 2007. HSBC has shifted 4,500 posts.

British bank branches are the most crowded in Europe, each serving an average of 5,000 customers, according to Datamonitor research. Some 1,000 branches have been closed.
