Legoland builds in child safety

Losing your child in a theme park is every parent's nightmare - but help is at hand. Legoland is set to introduce a new scheme at its centres to keep track of children.

A satellite navigation system using tiny bracelets pinpoints the child's location on a map, which parents activate by sending a text message to the device.

KidSpotter, the company behind the gadget, said it was already talking to dozens of other theme parks keen to introduce the technology.

The separation of parents and their children "is one of the greatest perennial concerns in the theme park industry", said Legoland Denmark spokeswoman Dorte Tegllund. "The new system has allowed us to bring this separation time down to an absolute minimum."

Although the device is currently only available in Denmark, it is set to come to Britain next year.

A spokesman for Legoland Windsor, which attracts more than 1.5 million visitors a year, said: "There is no reason it won't come here, and we are considering it for next season. It is obviously a very useful service."
