High profile Labour MP Keith Vaz has mysteriously deleted his social media accounts without warning.

The Leicester East MP sparked a flurry of speculation after users spotted his official Twitter and Facebook accounts had been disabled yesterday.

Mr Vaz, who had more than 12,000 followers on Twitter, is believed to have been receiving abusive messages on the site.

As speculation for Mr Vaz's disappearance from the site mounted, one person tweeted: "He's either pressed the wrong button or there's a storm heading his way."

Mr Vaz also came under social media scrutiny in November after he angered some of his constituents after he publically told the Coca Cola truck not to visit Leicester on its annual festive tour

The Evening Standard has approached Mr Vaz for comment.
