King: It's all lies, lies

12 April 2012

Pop mogul Jonathan King denied being a sex pervert and told his first trial that people who accused him of molesting them were "liars".

He said "thousands" of youngsters had been in his home over the years as part of his market research into teenagers' musical tastes.

He had probably written out a list of interests, including sex, drugs and music, for them to list in order of priority, between 20,000 and 30,000 times over the years.

But he denied using his "celebrity status" to lure boys to his Bayswater home to be assaulted after being shown pictures of naked women.

"It's lies," he kept repeating in the witness box during his first trial.

Asked why one of the witnesses had asked for the pop mogul to move out of his line of vision in the dock, King told the jury: "He could not lie to my face."

Prosecutor David Jeremy said King had pursued youngsters with his "market research" and told him: "You must be the only pop star who pestered his fans." King replied: "Yes - and it led to great success."

He denied Mr Jeremy's suggestion that he had "bamboozled" the youngsters with his fame before sexually assaulting them.

Asked why he had been able to remember more detail in court than he had told police, King replied: "I have had to do a lot of re-thinking of these trivial events in my life."

King refused to name the young woman seen in a photograph lying naked on a bed with a placard reading: "Let's Do It."
