Japan exports fall worse than feared

JAPANESE exports fell 7.3% in December, cutting the trade surplus by 37%, as a pumped-up yen and weakening consumer demand took their toll. The first fall in three months is another blow to any hopes of an economic recovery, and was bigger than even the most pessimistic forecasts.
