Children's TV presenter Jamie Theakston is to make his West End stage debut in the hit play Art next month.

Theakston's clean-cut image was recently tarnished after reports that he had "sleazy sex games" with three prostitutes at a Mayfair brothel. However, the BBC stood by him after he apologised and admitted that he had been "foolish".

Theakston, 31, will try to put the revelations behind him with his appearance in what will be the 24th change of cast in the award-winning Art, which has been running for six years.

Theakston, who started rehearsals last week for his starring role as Serge, the man who buys the art in Art, will be giving up his Top of the Pops presenting slot to concentrate on the play.

He said: "I'm happy and excited and nervous but looking forward to the show and to proving myself as an actor."

Theakston shot to fame as co-presenter of the children's TV show Live and Kicking alongside Zoe Ball.
