James MacArthur Hawaii Five-O's Danno dies at 72

12 April 2012

Actor James MacArthur, best known for his role as Detective Dan "Danno" Williams on the original Hawaii Five-O television show, has died of natural causes aged 72.

MacArthur, who won a Bafta for his role in the 1958 film The Young Stranger, died with his family by his side, his agent said today.

MacArthur, son of theatre legend Helen Hayes, spent 11 years in the popular show from 1968 to 1979 alongside detective Steve McGarrett, played by Jack Lord, who, after catching a crook, would end episodes with the familiar phrase "book 'em, Danno".
