Celebrities such as the Beckhams may choose unusual names for their children - like Romeo - but most British parents stick to tradition, according to new figures today.

Jack and Chloe remain the most popular names, extending their stay at the top of the chart to eight and six years respectively. As Courtney, Rachel, Shannon and Jade leave the top 30, Lily, Millie, Erin, Abbie and Jacob join the list of favourites.

The top six boys' names remain unchanged from last year. One of the biggest movers of 2003 is Ethan, from 19 to 12. The list, from baby experts Bounty, is based on 150,000 names chosen this year. The top five boys' names are: Jack, Joshua, Thomas, James and Daniel while for girls it's Chloe, Ellie, Emily, Jessica and Sophie.
