Iraq jail abuse trial halted

A military judge has declared a mistrial in the case of Lynndie England, a key figure in the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal, after evidence undermined her guilty plea deal.

Although the case could in theory be dropped, experts say a new trial is likely, with a new plea deal more difficult.

Proceedings were interrupted when witnesses speaking on her behalf contradicted her acceptance of guilt. England, 22, was photographed holding a naked prisoner on a leash at the Abu Ghraib prison outside Baghdad.
