iPhone Mugger who shouted Olé is jailed

12 April 2012

A mugger who cried "Olé" after grabbing his victim from behind and snatching his iPhone has been locked up for 18 months.

Abdelghani Mouflih, 19, of Shepherd's Bush, knocked over 20-year-old Enis Koyln by kneeing him in the back of the legs as he walked through Soho at 1am.

Mouflih fled with the phone after a short scuffle but was arrested soon afterwards as the entire attack had been caught on CCTV.

He had recently received a conditional discharge for shoplifting. Mouflih, who had been jobless since arriving in the UK from Italy this year, was sent to a young offender institute after admitting robbery.

Judge Geoffrey Rivlin, QC, told him: "This offence was committed within weeks of you receiving a very severe warning from the courts. And there you were committing not a trivial offence, but a serious offence of robbery. This was a nasty offence, it was not an offence committed on the spur of the moment."

Daniel Bunting, defending, said his client was a qualified mechanic who had been unable to find work since his arrival in Britain because of his poor English.
