Instant growth for Dobbies

12 April 2012

ENDLESS gardening programmes on TV seem to have inspired more people to try their hand. The 16-strong Dobbies chain of garden centres today unveiled a 29% rise in sales to £30.5m in the year to last October. Strongest growth was in instant gardening - mature trees, shrubs and large, hardy perennials.

Like-for-like sales rose by 15.5% and pre-tax profits by 12% to £2.9m. Earnings were static at 25p but the dividend is up 10% to 6.65p.

Chief executive James Barnes aims to double the size of the group by 2007.
