I'll be back, says peer jailed for expenses fraud

£11,000 fiddle: Lord Taylor was freed after serving a quarter of a 12-month jail sentence
12 April 2012

Jailed expenses cheat Lord Taylor of Warwick today vowed to return to the House of Lords to tell peers about life in prison.

The former barrister said: "I've heard the jangling of the keys from the inside... When there is a debate about prison reform most of them will be talking from theory. I'll be talking from practice. I want to be someone who will say, 'Look there is a better way'. There is a way in which we can reduce offending by making offenders more responsible."

Lord Taylor, 59, the first black Tory peer, was freed in September after serving a quarter of a 12-month sentence for fraudulently claiming more than £11,000. He was being suspended from the Lords today for the rest of the term, and will then be eligible to return.
