'I checked my wallet and it had gone'

Businessman Jim Konig was sitting in first class on a train in Paddington in October last year when he fell victim to Stewart.

Mr Konig, 46, managing director of City company Opus Consulting, said: "I had my jacket on a coat hook next to me. I was aware of someone who sat behind me and also hung his jacket on the hook next to mine.

"Just as the train was about to leave he suddenly said something to the person opposite me, stood up, took his jacket and left the train.

"I felt my jacket move and checked my wallet and found it had gone.

"By that time the train was moving so I used my mobile to ring and cancel the cards on the way to Cardiff."

Mr Konig added: "Stewart was using my cards as I cancelled them. Within 20 minutes he had got ?50 cashback at Safeway, bought 1,000 euros and two laptops worth ?3,000.

"I was angry that the rail stewards did not warn passengers that there are a lot of robberies on trains.

"People should be made aware this is going on."
