Hostage Briton was killed by shot to his head

12 April 2012

Iraq hostage Alec MacLachlan died from a gunshot wound to the head, an inquest heard today.

Security guard Mr MacLachlan, 30, of Llanelli, South Wales, was one of five Britons kidnapped in Baghdad in 2007 at the Iraqi finance ministry by 40 men in police uniforms.

The hostages included IT consultant Peter Moore, 36, from Lincoln, who is thought to be alive.

Mr MacLachlan's body was handed to the British embassy in Baghdad on 2 September. His inquest in Salisbury was opened and adjourned.

The bodies of fellow British guards Jason Swindlehurst and Jason Creswell were handed over in June. A fourth guard is thought also to be dead.
