Herman Cain's White House bid on brink over alleged affair

Under pressure: Herman Cain says his decision depends on wife Gloria
By Richard Porritt12 April 2012

White House hopeful Herman Cain was on the brink of abandoning his bid to become US President today after more damaging sex claims.

The latest woman to come forward to make allegations against the former frozen pizza company boss said they had had a 13-year affair.

Republican Mr Cain said his decision would depend on whether his wife Gloria stood by him.

The former Godfather's pizza chief said he and single mother Ginger White were just friends and he met her when she asked for advice to find a job.

Last night Ms White, 46, showed US media copies of mobile phone bills detailing scores of calls and late-night text messages apparently from Mr Cain. After Ms White went public Mr Cain discussed ending his campaign for the first time. He said: "I would make that decision depending on the circumstances and how it is impacting my wife and my family...As long as my wife is behind me."

Ms White told the Fox Network in Atlanta Mr Cain had flown her across the US and met her in expensive hotels: "It wasn't complicated. I was aware that he was married."
