Hendrix voted greatest of all time

12 April 2012

Jimi Hendrix has been voted the greatest guitarist of all time in a poll of fans and fellow musicians.

Brian May of Queen and Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi were among the stars asked to name their five favourites by Total Guitar magazine.

In the poll, which took four months to complete and brought in 440 nominations, Hendrix beat his nearest rival by 300 votes.

Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, who are both former members of Sixties band the Yardbirds, battled it out for second place. Page, who later joined Led Zeppelin, was runner-up, beating Clapton by 15 votes.
