Heartbroken Lily Allen has second miscarriage

12 April 2012

Lily Allen has lost her baby, it was revealed today.

The singer, who was six months pregnant, was rushed to hospital on Thursday morning after complaining of stomach pain.

Despite prompt medical attention, efforts to save the unborn child over the weekend were unsuccessful.

Allen, 25, suffered a miscarriage two years ago with her then partner Ed Simons of the Chemical Brothers.

However she appeared to be in good health this time after announcing she was expecting a child with builder boyfriend Sam Cooper in August.

The singer was given the all-clear following the three-month scan and spoke of looking forward to motherhood, calling her new partner "the love of my life".

Allen's spokesman said the couple were deeply distressed and have asked for privacy.

He said: "It is with great sadness that we have to confirm that Lily Allen and Sam Cooper have lost their baby.

"The couple ask that their privacy be respected and that they be left alone at this deeply distressing time.

Allen was forced to pull out of a performance at Elton John's charity ball at the weekend after she complained of ill health. It was initially thought she had a viral infection.

Allen, daughter of comedian and actor Keith Allen, started dating 32-year-old Cooper last year.

She had begun to effectively wind up her music career to prepare for motherhood but in the summer she performed at the Wireless festival in London.

She also set up a vintage clothing business, Lucy In Disguise, with her elder sister, Sarah Owen.

Allen has released two best-selling albums – Alright, Still and It's Not Me, It's You.
