Gurkhas poised for UK move

THOUSANDS more Gurkha soldiers could soon move to Britain because of new settlement rights due to be announced by the Home Office.

About 36,000 Gurkhas who served in the British Army before 1997 could be free to relocate with their families following a High Court ruling calling for the Government to review its policy.

The exodus could be so large that Nepal is said to be concerned about how it could affect its economy.

A Whitehall source said: "We have no idea how many will want to live in the UK and how many of their family they will bring with them."
