Gun database is launched

A new database to help tackle gun crime is launched today. The National Firearms Forensic Intelligence Database will link gun crime information from across the country for the first time.

It will record both weapons seized and forensic information about spent ammunition found at crime scenes.

The information means detectives can find out within hours - rather than weeks or months - whether the crime they are investigating is linked to others.
