The family of a teenager who died after being trapped in a car under water despite workmen's efforts to free her with a JCB today said she was "one in a million".

Jordan Wickersham, 17, died in hospital last Wednesday after spending 20 minutes under water in Spellbrook, Hertfordshire. It is thought the silver Vauxhall Corsa, driven by Jordan's friend Sian Carrig, 17, skidded on ice and overturned into the six-foot-deep water.

Oscar Smith, 60, his son, also Oscar Smith, 30, and Alan Elliott, 34, tried to pull out the car using their JCB. Sian escaped through a window but Jordan's leg was trapped under the seat. She died in hospital.

Jordan's mother Lisa and sisters Jade, 23, and Hollie, 21, thanked those who did "everything possible" to save her.

They said: "Jordan was always very strong willed and spoke her mind. But also she was very loving and very supportive."
