Government wins night flights fight

13 April 2012

The Government today won an appeal against a European Court of Human Rights ruling that noisy night flights at Heathrow breached the right of citizens to the "peaceful enjoyment" of their homes.

The decision raises the prospect of a huge rise in take-offs and landings at Heathrow between 11pm to 6am.

The decision is the climax of an eight-year campaign by the Heathrow Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise.

British Airways said losing the flights would cost them £320 million a year.
