Gordon Brown in web bid to boost image

Gordon Brown is to put videos of his speeches and interviews on the internet in a bid to increase his popularity.

Despite the Prime Minister being regarded as a dull public speaker, Downing Street advisers have concluded that voters need to see more of him. Clips of Mr Brown in action, including what is being billed " exclusive video", will be published via the No 10 website within days.

A spokesman denied a report in today's FT that the Prime Minister was getting his own television channel - called Number10TV - but confirmed that there would be a more intensive use of the web. Downing Street recently started using the social networking website Twitter to plug Mr Brown's trips and visits while the Tories used an online video game format to mock a spat between Cabinet ministers Jack Straw and Ed Balls.

A No 10 spokesman played the move down, saying: "We're always looking at ways of improving and strengthening the website."
