'Good parents must report children'

12 April 2012

The mother of an Olympic ambassador suspected of hurling bricks at a police car today urged other parents to report their children over rioting.

Adrienne Ives, who reported daughter Chelsea to police after saying she saw footage of her on television, told the Standard: "First things first - we love our daughter and will do whatever we can to help her.

"However, any good parent would find the courage to do what we have done. These riots happen because good parents do nothing.

"If parents keep their mouths shut these kids will keep rampaging through the streets. The world knows about our daughter. Chelsea will be made an example of which is a bit unfair. She should be accountable for her actions but not for everyone else's."

Chelsea, 18, was arrested after her devastated mother says she saw TV footage of her taking part in the scenes of violence in Enfield.

She denies burglary at two mobile phone shops, violent disorder and attacking a BMW police car and has been remanded in custody.

Today, Mayor Boris Johnson said that anyone caught rioting is "not fit" to be an Olympic Ambassador.

Miss Ives was a youth ambassador for Waltham Forest.

Mr Johnson posted a message on his Twitter account which read: "No one involved in the recent riots is fit to represent this city.

"They will not be Olympic Ambassadors."
