Girls Aloud star 'landed right hook'

In court: Cheryl Tweedy
13 April 2012

Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy screamed "Get that f***ing black bitch up here and I will finish the job" moments after punching a nightclub toilet attendant in a row over a handful of lollipops, a court heard today.

The 20-year-old pop star was also heard to say "Get the jigaboo up here and I will sort her out" as security staff tried to calm her down after the row.

Tweedy made the comments in the club's VIP area where she had been taken after her altercation with 39-year-old Sophie Amogbokpa, Kingston Crown Court was told.

The singer allegedly punched Mrs Amogbokpa in the face during a row in the toilets at the Drink nightclub in Guildford, Surrey, on January 11.

Philip White, head of security at the nightclub, told the court he had taken Tweedy to the club's VIP area after marching her out of the toilets in an attempt to defuse the row.

He said: "I sat her down on the leather chair at the end of the VIP area under the plasma screen.

"Her friend came up and as we were trying to calm her down she was saying 'Get that f***ing black bitch up here and I will finish the job, get that jigaboo up here and I will sort her out'."

Mr White told the court that Tweedy repeated her comments more than once. He said she was "very hyper" and "very loud".

The doorman said he had first been alerted to the row by Tweedy's fellow band member Nicola Roberts, who had come running out of the toilets to tell him there was trouble with the toilet attendant.

Mr White said that as he rushed into the ladies' lavatory, he saw Tweedy standing within an arm's distance of Mrs Amogbokpa. The two were shouting and screaming at each other.

He said: "I saw Miss Tweedy right-hook the toilet attendant and her glasses came flying off."

Mr White said Tweedy had punched the toilet attendant with her clenched right fist and that the blow came straight up and across her face.

He said he identified it as a right hook from the boxing training he had done for his job as a nightclub doorman.

He said Tweedy was "very, very aggressive, very abusive" and that he picked her up and took her to the other end of the lavatory where he tried to calm her down.

He said Tweedy was trying to break free from his grip and was saying she was "going to finish the job" and shouting "I am going to do you" towards the toilet attendant.

"She was trying to get out of my grip," said Mr White. "We have been told to be more gentle with females because of some of the allegations you get but she (Tweedy) was very strong, a very strong young lady."

He said that while Tweedy struggled, the toilet attendant was sitting back on her stool looking very stunned and shocked.
