Girl, 6, is shot after opening door

A six-year-old girl is in hospital today after being shot when a gunman burst into her home.

Police believe Makada Weaver was the innocent victim of a gangland feud after opening her front door to the man last night.

She was hit in the chest and arm. Her mother Valerie and brother Adrian, who police say was the real target, were also shot. All three are recovering in a Liverpool hospital.

Police believe the incident is linked to a killing in the city three years ago for which Makada's uncle was tried and acquitted.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "These three people were innocent victims."
