A three-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital after being attacked by a Dobermann dog today.

The youngster was taken to Birmingham's Heartlands Hospital by air ambulance after being attacked in the garden of a house in Claverdon, near Warwick.

Warwickshire Police said the incident, which involved a dog owned by a member of the girl's family, happened shortly after midday today.

A police spokesman said the child was reported to have serious head injuries.

The spokesman added: "Police are attending the address in Claverdon and an investigation has been started into how the child came to be injured by the dog.
