Gang steals £1m of rare wine from warehouse

12 April 2012

Police are hunting a gang who snatched more than £1 million of vintage wine and champagne at a London warehouse.

Witnesses saw six men using a forklift truck to load vehicles with 400 cases of "rare" bottles, some valued at £3,000, after disabling alarms and CCTV cameras.

The warehouse, under railway arches in Bethnal Green, is owned by the wine bar chain Balls Brothers, which went into liquidation last year.

Much of the wine is owned by private investors, who have put up a £5,000 reward. Two men have been arrested.
