Games chief drops cheap ticket pledge

Olympic chiefs today backed away from their plan to offer cheap tickets at the 2012 Games.

Pledges made during the bid about affordability could no longer be guaranteed because of the economy and the 2012 schedule, MPs heard.

Paul Deighton, chief executive of the 2012 organising committee, had promised to sell 4.3 million tickets at £20 or less, 6.2million at £30 or less and 7.6million at £50 or less.
