Frighteningly cheap: £600 horror movie stars at festival

26 June 2013

Two Londoners whose debut movie cost £600 will see it have a premiere at the East End Film Festival alongside new work by award-winning directors Ben Wheatley and Mike Figgis.

Director Will Hutchinson, 42, and writer Leo Whetter, 38, shot low-budget horror film Overhill, starring Lorna Beckett and Cornish locals, in just four days in the village where Hutchinson’s brother Ollie runs a shop.

Hutchinson is a web designer who lives on a houseboat in Canada Water, and Whetter took a creative writing degree after being made redundant. Overhill tells of a woman terrorised while on a writer’s retreat in Cornwall. The festival runs from today until July 10 and Overhill is on tomorrow at Genesis Cinema, Mile End.
